River Drivers Fall 6 to 5 in Overtime to Dashers

(Berlin, New Hampshire) Before the puck was dropped tonight the Berlin River Drivers took a moment to recognize the Boston Pride's forward, Denna Laing. It has been more than a week since she crashed head-first into the boards at the Women's Winter Classic. The River Drivers organization wishes Denna a speedy recovery.

The River Drivers light the lamp 19 seconds into the game when Brantley Sherwood scored off assists from Jiri Pestuka and Troy Polino. The Dashers answered back at 1:56 when Justin Brausen scored on a Ray Tremblay assist. The visitors would notch their second of the period when Justin Levac found the back of the net off assists from Justin Brausen and Ray Tremblay at 7:05. River Drivers Troy Polino tied things up at 2 at 18:25 off assists from Brantley Sherwood and Steven Gallo.

The second period would see both teams trading shots and both teams adding 2 goals to their totals. Danville's A J Tesoriero scored from assists by Justin Levac and Gehrett Sargis at 5:32. The visitors would score their second of the of period when Ray Tremblay scored off assists from Gehrett Sargis and Justin Brausen at 7:34 to give the Dashers a 4 to 2 lead. But the River Drivers battled back to tie the game at 4 a piece before the period ended. Stathis Soumelidis scored at 16:09 off assists from Tom Tracy and Curtis Warren and Jiri Pestuka scored at 17:38 off assists from Brantley Sherwood and Troy Polino.

In the final period of regulation both teams would put shots on net and each team added a goal to their totals. Berlin's Donald Olivieri scored off assists from Stathis Soumelidis and Tom Tracy and Danville's Andrew Harrison scored off assists from Lester Brown and Brent Clarke. At the end of regulation both teams had 5 goals.

In the extra period the Dashers recorded only 1 shot on goal, but it was the game winner by A J Tesoriero off an assist from Gehrett Sargis at 2:49 into overtime.

River Drivers goaltender Valery Pronin faced 35 shots and recorded 29 saves in the loss. Dashers goaltender Matt Anthony faced 46 shots and recorded 41 saves in the win.

The River Drivers travel to Brewster to square off against the Bulldogs on Saturday while the Dashers travel to Danbury to face the Titans.

The River Drivers next home game is scheduled for Friday, January 15th against the Danbury Titans starting at 7:30pm (EST).
