March 24, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
RiverCity Rage News Release
With the focus on both Democracy and exciting indoor football, the River City Rage of the National Indoor Football League will kick off the 2005 Season Opener at Family Arena this Saturday, March 26th. Kick-off is slated for 7pm.
Coach Mike Wyatt's record setting offense and improved defense will hit the turf against the visiting Fayetteville Guard, with the Rage looking to improve on last years playoff record of 9 and 5. In reaching the playoffs for the first time in 2004, the Rage set five new NIFL records, including records for total offense and non-kick scoring.
The Rage will return with a new look in 2005, from the ownership to the team on the field. The new River City Rage Ownership Group consists of businessmen Tye Elliott, a State Sales Coordinator for Aflac Insurance;....Scott Wilson, an Account Executive with JW Terrill Insurance;...and Jerry Lakin, a Bio-Medical Engineer for American Red Cross. The focus of the new group is, and will continue to be, taking the team to the next level both in terms of performance on the football field and involvement in the metropolitan St. Louis area. New uniforms and helmets will be proudly worn by the home team, and fans can expect a fun-filled experience at every home game, ranging from cheerleaders to the special events planned for the rest of the home season.
At a Press Conference earlier in March, the Rage announced that the theme of the Home Opener would be âCelebrate Democracy" day, with emphasis on honouring those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Several high ranking officers from Scott Air Force Base, The Air National Guard, The Army National Guard, Ft. Leonard Wood, and more will be in attendance, and a "Heroes Half-Time" game featuring local celebrities pitted against the real heroes of America, soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Former Army All-American football player Mike Mayweather, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate and is the all time leading rusher in Army history, will be in attendance, along with formers Rams player, No. 52 Mike "the Tackle" Jones.
Along with Opening Night fireworks, fans will have the chance to inter-act with our military and will be able to view various military vehicles including a HumVee with a nickel-plated M-60, the nose section of a F4 Phantom Fighter, where fans will be able to climb inside and have their photo taken. In addition, there are plans to bring in a Blackhawk Helicopter, a Flight Simulator, and more! Finally, for football fans of all ages, an Inflatable Football Experience!
Game Day and Season Tickets are on sale now to the general public and can be secured thru Metrotix.com or 800-293-5949, and thru the Family Arena Box Office at 636-896-4292. Military personnel can purchase tickets at the Family Arena Box Office for $5.00 by presenting any form of military I.D.
