Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The River Bandits and the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to terms extending the Player Development Contract through the 2012 season. St. Louis last renewed their affiliation shortly after Main Street Baseball took over the team following the 2007 season.
"We have been with the Cardinals since the day we purchased this franchise," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "We have given them a brand new state-of-the-art field, a beautiful clubhouse, and an opportunity for their up-and-coming stars to play in the best location in the entire Midwest League. They, in turn have given our fans a chance to see a great number of future major league stars, many of whom, such as Colby Rasmus, are already making great contributions in St. Louis. In that sense, it has been a mutually rewarding partnership and we are pleased to continue it."
The River Bandits just finished their most successful season as a Cardinals affiliate. Led by field manager Johnny Rodriguez, the Bandits were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after finishing the regular season with the Midwest League's second best record at 83-55.
"We are excited about extending our Player Development Agreement with the Quad Cities River Bandits," said Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak. "From their ownership to management they continue to provide the St. Louis Cardinals with a positive environment to play baseball. We are looking forward to another two years in Quad Cities."
The Cardinals have sent some of their best prospects through the Quad Cities over the past several years. Current Cardinals who once called Modern Woodmen Park home include Jamie Garcia, Jason Motte, Tyler Greene, Nick Stavinoah and Colby Rasmus. In 2010 the River Bandits pitching staff was anchored by the Cardinals top prospect and 2009 first-round pick Shelby Miller.
The River Bandits will open play on the 2011 season in April and season tickets are on sale now. For more information throughout the offseason visit www.RiverBandits.com
