Riptide Take Game Two from Force
Three singles and efficient base running helped lift the Riptide to a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Force in game two of the four game series. New England pitcher Erica Beach pitched a complete game, striking out seven while allowing only three hits, marking her fifth pitching victory of the season.
A base hit by Shanel Scott in the bottom of the third marked the first hit given up by Force pitcher Stacy Birk. Scott stole second and advanced to third on an illegal pitch, a problem that plagued Birk throughout the game. Garland Cooper singled to left driving in Scott giving the Riptide a 1-0 advantage.
Scott gave New England some run insurance in the bottom of the fifth. Lead off batter Cari Martin singled, but was called out for interfering with second baseman Emily Friedman as she fielded a grounder from Scott. Scott stole second, and Cooper walked putting two on for the Riptide.
Angus hit into a fielders choice that saw Cooper out at second while Scott advanced to third. Angus stole second and Birk booted a throw back to the mound allowing Scott to score making it 2-0 Riptide. Birk pitched a complete game for Philadelphia, allowing three hits while striking out one. The win improves the Riptide to 11-7 on the season as they look to take game three from the Force tomorrow, Friday June 29 at 7:05 pm.
