Thunder Melt Ice, 7-2
June 28, 2007 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release
Timely hitting, solid pitching and tough defense are keys to a pro fastpitch team's ingredients for success. The Mid Michigan Ice suffered lapses in all three aspects in a 7-2 defeat to the hands of the Rockford Thunder in Illinois Thursday night.
Starter Megan Brown (1-1) struggled with her control early and was unable to take advantage of an early Ice 1-0 lead after the top half of the first.
The Ice put one on the board in the top of the first after Lani Shaffer reached on an error and then scored on a Miranda Ervin single. But the Ice couldn't muster anything else. The Thunder wasted little time putting two on the board in the bottom of the first and three in the third to chase Brown from the circle.
The Thunder added two more runs in the fifth off of reliever Keli Harrell to finish up the scoring for Rockford. The Ice netted their final run off of a Charity Butler RBI in the sixth inning. The Ice fall to 6-3 on the season while Rockford improves to 16-7.
The final game of the series with Rockford will take place tomorrow night at 7:35pm EST and can be heard live from the Rockford Thunder website (www.thunderprofastpitch.com).
