Rockford Thunder News Release

Nashville, TN - The National Pro Fastpitch League Office announced today the establishment of the position of Director of Special Events and the appointment of Steve Leasure in that position.

Leasure has extensive experience and a long history in many facets of softball. Leasure has been involved in softball for most of his adult life. He played softball for the United States Navy Fleet Operational Control Center Pacific Fleet team based in Kunai, Hawaii in the early 70's. Steve then found his passion for the women's game as well as youth softball, a passion that has continued for over 36 years.

As a coach, Leasure's teams have participated in over 30 National Tournaments. Along with numerous All American selections, 11 of his players have been inducted into National Hall of Fames for various amateur associations and universities. Among other notables, his teams captured four National Titles, numerous Regional Titles, and a 1991 team appearance in the Olympic Sports Festival. In the sport of softball, Steve is well known for his attention to detail and his ability to teach and prepare players and teams for competition. Six years ago, Steve retired from coaching and started Blu Chip Events, a recruiting/exposure camp business with emphasis on the recruiting process. "The NPF is positioning itself for continued growth, improvement, and increased exposure of our athletes. Choreographing our events for a first class presentation every time we go out is going to become standard for us. Steve Leasure is just the right person to oversee the logistics of this" stated Cheri Kempf.

Leasure, as the Director of Special Events will have as his number one priority, the oversight and management of the League's premier event and culmination of each season, the Championship Series. The 2009 Series was a showcase of the best softball competition in the world with the nation's most outstanding women's fastpitch softball players pitted against each other for a nine game play-off that eventually yielded the Rockford Thunder as the Champions. Rockford's well known and accomplished pitcher, Cat Osterman, was awarded MVP of the Championship Series for her outstanding efforts toward the eventual title. In addition to the Series, Leasure will design additional events such as developmental camps and clinics, athlete appearances, and assist in MLB/NPF partnered events.

National Pro Fastpitch is headquartered in Nashville, TN. The League, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names of Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL).
