Riptide swept by Bandits
Elgin, Ill August 11th - The New England Riptide finally return home for their final regular season series this week as they were swept by the Bandits in Chicago after dropping a 11-4 decision tonight. The Riptide scored three in the first inning but again for the third time in three nights, were unable to maintain the lead. Kristina Thorson started for the Bandits but only lasted two innings as she gave up all four runs. Jessica Sallinger (11-6) came on in the third to hold down the Riptide and pick up the win. Riptide starter Erica Beach (2-7) took the loss for the Riptide. Jocelyn Forest came on to relieve Beach and pitched the sixth.
Both teams scored three in the first, the Riptide thanks in part to an error by Samantha Findlay. Findlay bobbled a ground ball hit by Jackie Pasquerella with one out. Singles by Lisa Modglin and Lyndsey Angus loaded the bases. Jess Merchant hit into a ground out that advanced all runners a base and scored the Riptide's first run. Beach then stepped to the plate and helped herself with a single up the middle that scored Modglin and Angus. The Bandit runs were scored when Rachel Folden tripled down the right field line to score Stacy May who had led off with a walk and Kristie Fox who had singled. Folden later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Trimboli.
The Riptide took a 4-3 lead in the second on Alex Sutton's first home run of the year. The Bandits struck back in the bottom of the third off Beach. Singles by Fox and Folden were followed by a two RBI double by Jaime Clark. Clark scored the third run of the inning on the second hit of the game by Trimboli. The Bandits hitting continued, scoring three more in the fifth off Beach and two in the sixth off Forest on Rachel Folden's second home run in two nights.
The Riptide return home to Martin Softball Field on August 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th to wrap up the regular season against the first place Washington Glory. Thursday is Valentine's Day in August at Martin Softball Field. Friday is Teacher's Recognition Night. All teachers will be admitted free of charge and receive a special gift.
