Riptide slay Dragons, 17-10

CARSON, CA (Saturday, July 22, 2006) - The Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse defeated the San Francisco Dragons, 17-10, for their third win of the season on a scorching hot Saturday afternoon in front of 2,781 fans at The Home Depot Center. The Riptide was led by midfielders Graham Gill and Sean Lindsay, who both registered hat-tricks in the victory for Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, goaltender Tillman Johnson notched 15 saves on 20 shots in three quarters of action before being spelled by backup goalie Matt Vallone, who made six saves on nine shots in the fourth quarter.

The Riptide came out fast, scoring the game's first goal just two minutes into the opening quarter, and went on to a 4-3 lead on goals from attackman Spencer Ford, Gill, face-off specialist Anthony Kelly and attackman Michael Watson.

In the second quarter, the Riptide came out blazing scoring six unanswered goals to make the score 10-3 in favor of Los Angeles at halftime. Los Angeles' defense stepped up their pressure and held the Dragons scoreless in the quarter.

Five members of the Riptide scored at least three points apiece, including Ford (1g, 2a), Gill (3g, 1a), attackman Sean Hartofilis (1g, 2a), Lindsay (3g, 0a) and Watson (2g, 1a). In addition, Lindsay and Watson extended their team record scoring streak to seven consecutive games with at least one goal.

In net for San Francisco, goalie Alex Cade made 20 saves on 36 shots. The Dragons were led by attackman Matt Alrich, who scored a hat-trick. Five other players also recorded a goal each in the match, including defenseman Eric Martin's two point goal.
