Boston Cannons News Release

Boston, MA - The Boston Cannons escaped the Rochester Rattlers 13-12 in front of 5,606 fans at Nickerson Field. Conor Gill was up to his old tricks as he scored three goals and two assists for five points and was named Bud Light Game MVP.

Gill scored the last two goals for the Cannons to secure the win over their Eastern Conference rival. The Cannons improved their record to 7-2 and tied the Philadelphia Barrage for the best record in the East. No team scored more than three goals in a row until the Cannons in the fourth.

Gill led the way in the fourth quarter as Matt Poskay added his second of the game off a feed from John Christmas as each team notched three in the period. Gill made the score 12-11 to give the Cannons the lead for good, and added a second tally to give Boston some breathing room. The extra goal went a long way as Rochester attackman Joe Kostolansky scored with just 38 seconds left to pull the Rattlers within one.

The Cannons did not back down as the Rattlers had more than one scoring opportunity in the fourth, as midfielder Greg Gurenlian won the ensuing face-off but misfired on his shot. The Cannons played tough defense until the final whistle when Chris Passavia knocked down a Rattler before he had the chance to shoot.

The Rattlers were led by attackman Nate Hill who scored a hat-trick and added two assists for five points. Goalie Mike Levin made 20 saves in net.

Boston was also led by attackman David Evans who notched two two-point goals and one assist for five points. The Cannons were without starting goaltender Chris Garrity, defenseman Ryan Curtis and midfielder Brett Bucktooth due to the 2006 Warrior World Lacrosse Championship.

Jake Coon started in goal and made 15 saves. Christmas scored one goals and added two assists for three points, midfielder Poskay scored twice, attackman Chazz Woodson scored twice and midfielder Chris Fiore scored once. Midfielder Dave Jenkins won 13-26 face-offs.

The Cannons continue their three game home next weekend on Saturday July 29th, against the New Jersey Pride at Nickerson Field.
