New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, Ma -July 16th- It was St. Patrick's Day out of season at Martin Softball Field tonight. The fans celebrated in the stands and in the end it was the Riptide also celebrating as they scored early to cruise to an 11-6 win. Four Racer errors and seven walks also aided the Riptide. Jocelyn Forest picked up her sixth win of the year in the process allowing seven hits.

The Riptide jumped to a 2-0 league in the first as Racer starter Jamee Juarez (0-3) failed to last through an inning. Carri Martin led off with a triple into the right field corner and Jackie Pasquerella followed immediately with a double in the left center gap. Pasquerella moved to third on an infield out and scored on an error by Veronica Wootson. After a walk to Lisa Modglin, Radara McHugh came in to relieve Juarez and got ground outs from Lisa Iancin and KJ Kelley to avoid further damage. Three singles, three walks and two errors gave the Riptide three runs in the second to give the Riptide a 6-0 lead and effectively put the game out of reach. Angel Shamblin, last night's starter, relieved McHugh with no outs in the second.

Down 7-0, the Racers would not go quietly. India Chiles got the first hit off Forest beating out a ball chopped to shortstop. Kristen Butler followed with a monster home run over the 235' sign in center field to cut the lead to 7-2. Susan Ogden was hit by a pitch and Kate Robinson demonstrated her power with a long ball to make it 7-4. The Riptide eventually got the lead back up to the lucky seven with three of their own in the fourth and one in the sixth. Martin set things up in both innings and finished the night three for five with four runs scored. Lyndsey Angus contributed with three singles in four at bats and drove in four runs and walked. Jess Merchant and Pasquerella also had the other multiple hit games with two. The Riptide were the lucky recipients of seven walks on the night, three by catcher KJ Kelley. The Racers added two in the seventh.

The series continues on Friday and Saturday at Martin Softball Field at 7:05. Friday features the Friends of the Wiggles mascots from Six Flags and Saturday is Mizuno night. The first 500 fans will receive a Jennie Finch poster.
