Washington Glory News Release
CHANTILLY, VA -- Amber Jackson (Bethune Cookman and University of Maryland) may have broken out of her slump and did so in big fashion by smacking a pair of extra-base hits and driving in three as the Glory took a 5-1 victory over Rockford in the first of a four game series at the Westfield Softball Complex.
Jackson's home run came in the first inning following Oli Keohohou's (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI, double) third career stolen base and second of the season off catcher Stephanie Fischer. Keohohou would score on Jackson's double in the fifth inning to make it 5-1.
Sarah Pauly improved to 9-2 on the season and into a tie with Eileen Canney of New England for the league lead in wins by throwing six innings, allowing only a home run to Tonya Callahan, her sixth of the season. Pauly struck out seven over six innings of work while Taryne Mowatt threw a quiet seventh inning to close it out.
Stephanie Best, the former Glory player who was traded to Rockford after the teams played in Illinois June 7, went 0-for-2 with a walk and reached on an error against her former mates.
This victory marks the fifth consecutive win the Glory have over Rockford in Virginia and the seventh consecutive win the Glory have had over Rockford while the home team (counting both playoff games last season in Wisconsin).
The teams will take part in a pair of Battle of the Bats beginning tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. The second of which will take place Saturday at the same time. Game times for the three remaining games in the series are 7:05 p.m.
