
Rio Grande Valley Vipers Start Preseason with a Win over Los Laguneros De La Comarca | October 29

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers faced off against Los Laguneros De la Comarca in a preseason matchup which resulted in a 157-112 victory for the Vipers.
On the offensive side for the Vipers, Michael Frazier led the team with 22 points, six rebounds and shot 64.3% from the field. Los Laguneros were led offensively by Ri'Tea Acosta who tallied 24 points partnered by three rebounds and a solid 4-4 from the free throw line.
Los Laguneros kicked off the game on a fast pace, taking a 5-11 lead with 8:39 left in the first quarter of play. The Vipers quickly regrouped and scored five unanswered to tie up the game at 13-13. Both teams kept the pace going into the second quarter, but Los Laguneros found themselves trailing by double digits often. The biggest Viper lead of the half came at the :14.5 mark when Danuel House and Brandon Sampson combined for a transition dunk to place RGV on top by 17 points.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers did not let off the gas pedal in the third quarter extending their lead to 38 as the quarter came to its end.
Los Laguneros defensively tallied 25 boards and six steals in an attempt to limit the damage. Leading the defensive efforts for Los Laguneros was Jesmon Walker with six total rebounds, four defensives, and a lone steal.
Off the bench, Los Laguneros scored 45 points, led by Acosta with 24 points, starters totaled 67 points. Walker and Chris Freeman combined for 36 points as starters tonight
Returner Chris Walker and newcomer Bruno Caboclo were difference makers in tonight's matchup. The Vipers were averaging a 27 point lead each time one of the big men stepped on the court. Walker ended the third quarter with a six-point run which helped balloon the Viper lead.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will host their season opener at the new Bert Ogden Arena on November 3, 2018 at 7 p.m. when they face Memphis Hustle.
