RimRockers sign athletic trainer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., August 8- The Arkansas RimRockers announce Chris Simmons as Head Trainer for the 2005-06 season. Simmons recently completed two seasons as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Arkansas under the guidance of Head Athletic Trainer Dean Weber. Simmons assisted with the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of all athletic injuries for the Razorbacks' football and cheerleading teams. Simmons received his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2002 from the University of Memphis after transferring from Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi. While attending school at Memphis, Simmons worked as a student athletic trainer for baseball, men's basketball, track and field and football.

"We are excited to have Chris with us for this upcoming year. He is especially familiar with the great athletic tradition in the state of Arkansas," said Head Coach Joe Harge. "Chris brings a great level of pride, enthusiasm and professionalism to the team. I am grateful we were able to get him from the University of Arkansas."

Simmons interned for the Cleveland Browns, the Memphis Redbirds and for Physiotherapy Associates in Memphis as a PT Technician. He worked for the Sebastian County Administrative Review; the 2004 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Oxford, Mississippi; 2003 Independence Bowl; 2003 NCAA Men's Tennis Regional in Lexington, Kentucky; 2003 SEC Tennis Championship in Oxford Mississippi; 2003-05 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas; 2003-05 Tyson Invitational Track Meets in Fayetteville; 2002 Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee; 2002 SEC Football Championship in Atlanta Georgia; 2000 Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee and the 2000 NCAA Women's Basketball Mideast Regional in Memphis, Tennessee.

Simmons is certified by NATA Board of Certification in CPR/ AED and First Aid.

The NBA Development League includes the Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Tulsa 66ers (Okla.), as well as teams in Albuquerque (N.M.) and Austin (Texas).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Ten (10) former D-League coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
