Heat Sign D-League Albuquerque Forward

August 8, 2005 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C., August 8 - The Miami Heat announced today that they have signed free agent forward and former NBA Development League (Albuquerque) player Earl Barron. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Barron, a 7'0", 268-pound forward, starred last month on the Heat's team in the Summer Pro League in Long Beach, CA, averaging team-highs in points (17.4 ppg), rebounds (7.4 rpg) and blocks (1.00 bpg) in seven games. He also topped the Heat in field goal percentage (.652), free throws made (36), free throws attempted (43), defensive rebounds (32) and total rebounds (52). His four 20-point outings and two double-doubles tied Wayne Simien for the team lead.

Prior to joining the Heat, Barron spent the last two seasons playing in the NBA Development League with what is now the D-League team in Albuquerque. In two seasons he averaged 11.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 25.2 minutes in 55 regular season contests while shooting 50.4 percent (241-478) from the floor and 80.5 percent (149-185) from the foul line. Barron earned D-League Honorable Mention honors in 2004-05 after averaging 12.2 points (17th in the D-League), 5.7 rebounds and 25.8 minutes. Barron split the 2003-04 season between the D-League and Tuborg Pilsener in Turkey.
