Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, Arkansas March 25 -Two evenly matched teams took the court in Alltel Arena tonight, but it was the Arkansas RimRockers (23-20) who came away with the victory and sole possession of third place in the NBA Development League. The RimRockers defeated the Austin Toros (22-21) by a final score of 116-114.

Marcus Campbell and Kareem Reid led the RimRockers with 18 points each. From tip-off until final buzzer, the RimRockers led the Toros, pulling away by as many as 17 points as the race for third place heated up.

"We did what we had to do to win tonight," RimRockers head coach Andy Stoglin said. "Kareem is a winning-time player. He turns it up a notch during crunch time and really leads this team."

After winning the toss, the RimRockers controlled the ball well and out-scored the Toros 33-16 in the first quarter. The Toros attempted no three-pointers and allowed the RimRockers to sink both of the treys they attempted. The RimRockers grabbed half of their total boards in the first quarter, out-rebounding the Toros 15-7. Both teams attempted 19 shots, however the Toros made only 6 while the RimRockers made 12, shooting 63.2 percent.

Austin caught back up to Arkansas in the second quarter and with two minutes to play in the half, pulled within three points of the RimRockers. The RimRockers allowed their first quarter lead to diminish by allowing Marcus Fizer to score 9 points in the quarter. The Toros also out-rebounded the RimRockers 14-5. By the end of the first half, the RimRockers led by only 8 points.

Tonight's game featured two evenly matched teams on the interior play. In the third quarter, each team had scored 14 points in the paint and put back two second chance points. The RimRockers succeeded in winning the third quarter simply by making their free-throw opportunities count. They were 7-10 from the line while Austin went 8-12. Reid's pair of three-pointers also gave the RimRockers the push they needed going into the final quarter.

A last effort rally brought Austin back from a 11 point deficit and they were once again within three points of Arkansas. A Ramel curry bucket late in the quarter tied the game at 114 all, but Olu Famutimi hit a long jumper with under 10 seconds to play, sealing the victory for the RimRockers.

"We are really playing well now. We are starting to make our shots when it counts," Stoglin said. "The big money shots definitely has made the difference in these last few games. The extra practice is paying off and the guys are seeing that now."

The RimRockers had seven players to score in double figures, the most all season. Along with Reid and Campbell, Brian Jackson and Clay Tucker each added 16 points, Chris Shumate contributed 15 points, Myron Allen poured in 14 and Olu Famutimi finished with 11 points.

Marcus Fizer carried the Toros with 40 points, going 10-19 from the field and 18-23 from the free-throw line. Also putting up big numbers were Curry with 24 points, Andre Emmett with 18 points, Omar Thomas with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Quannas White with 11 points.

The Toros will have a chance to get even with the RimRockers as they take the court against each other tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.
