Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, Arkansas March 12 - Although the Arkansas RimRockers (20-19) gave up 48 fourth period points, the lead they built in the third period was enough to carry them to a 133-127 victory over the Roanoke Dazzle (19-20). Tonight's win clinched sole possession of fourth place for the RimRockers, who have 9 games remaining in the regular season.

Clay Tucker's 21 third period points jump started the trailing RimRockers to a 41 point scoring spree. Tucker led the RimRockers in scoring with a total of 33 points, followed by a 30 point effort from Brandon Dean and 17 points from Kareem Reid. Tucker came out to hit back-to-back treys and a jumper to score the RimRockers first eight points of the second half.

"We have historically struggled in the third quarter," Head Coach Andy Stoglin said. "Instead of falling behind, tonight we came out and scored 41 points in the third quarter. I wish we could have done the same in the final quarter, but I'm pleased with the way the guys hustled and shot the ball."

The RimRockers had a new starting center tonight in Marcus Campbell. After losing the tip and drawing the game's first foul, Campbell got the RimRockers' first rebound and then went on to score the first two points of the game. Dean led the field in scoring with 10 during the first quarter, but the Arkansas defense was weak. The Dazzle came back from a 10 point deficit to end the first period trailing by only one point.

The Dazzle stepped out to take an early lead in the second period. Led by P.J. Ramos' 12 points and 10 points by Anthony Grundy, the Dazzle controlled the pace of the game and looked to take their lead into the half. The RimRockers made a last minute surge and were able to take back their lead by a slim margin. At the buzzer, the score was RimRockers 53, Dazzle 49.

After their outstanding performance in the third, the RimRockers appeared to cruise to an easy victory over the Dazzle. The official stats page tells a different story. The Dazzle utilized their height advantage over the RimRockers, scoring 79 points in the paint while holding the RimRockers to 50. The Dazzle also out-performed the RimRockers on defense, capturing 49 total boards and securing 33 second chance points compared to the RimRockers 26 rebounds and 6 second chance points. The RimRockers made up for the lack of height and defense by shooting 58.8 percent from the three point arc and only missing 6 free throws on the night. Chris Shumate made the difference for the RimRockers from the bench, coming off to score 15 points.

"This was the team I was really worried about," Stoglin said. "They are so talented and we are so short-handed right now. I'm pleased with our guys. Now we have to focus on a skilled Fort Worth team. They've been on fire lately."

The RimRockers travel to Fort Worth to take on the Flyers in back-to-back games on the 17 and 18, while the Dazzle enjoy a three game home streak starting Wednesday against the Fayetteville Patriots.
