SANDY, Utah (Thursday, May 14, 2009) - Utah's annual Click It or Ticket campaign will kick-off this year at Rio Tinto Stadium tomorrow, Friday, May 15, 2009. Law enforcement officers across the state will support this national program by enforcing the seat belt law, while RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando will serve as the MLS team's local spokesperson for the campaign, which reminds motorists to buckle up.

On an average day in Utah, there are 150 motor vehicle crashes involving nearly 400 people, resulting in 75 injuries and one death. Regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in crashes. Motorists should give themselves a real chance by wearing their seat belt on every ride, day and night.

Safety belts save lives, which is why more than 100 law enforcement agencies statewide are declaring zero tolerance for drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts, and placing special emphasis on young drivers and nighttime motorists. Utah's Seat Belt Law requires the use safety belts when traveling in a motor vehicle. The law provides for primary enforcement for drivers and passengers up to 19 years of age and secondary enforcement for individuals ages 19 and older. In addition, children must ride in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat until they are 8 years of age.
