Riley, Webb Earn Weekly Honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 22. Mississippi Braves third baseman, Austin Riley and right-handed relief pitcher, Jacob Webb have been selected for the weekly awards.

The 21-year old third baseman Riley, is currently sporting a .386 batting average (22-for-57) on the season. Riley leads all Mississippi Braves players in hits (22), doubles (8), triples (2), homeruns (3), runs batted in (14), and total bases (43). The sweet swinging right hander also leads the team with a .754 slugging percentage and a 1.190 on-base slugging percentage. For the week ending Sunday, April 22, Riley went 12-for-23 at the plate with five runs scored, five doubles, two triples, one homerun, six runs batted in and two walks. A native of Hernando, MS, Riley was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2015 as their selection in the Competitive Balance Round A (No. 41 overall) out of Desoto Central High School (Southaven, MS).

Webb, the 24-year old relief pitcher who has recently seen quite a bit of action as the M-Braves closer, currently has a win/loss record of 1-0 and a minuscule 0.96 ERA. Webb has appeared in more games than any other current Mississippi Braves pitcher, with seven appearances thus far in 2018. Of those seven appearances, three have occurred in this past week alone (April 16-April 22). In his three appearances this past week, Webb tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just three hits, and two walks. The right-hander also struck out eight and went 2-for-2 in saves/save opportunities. On the season, Webb has pitched 9.1 innings of relief, allowing just six hits, two runs, one earned run, one homerun, has walked a total of four batters and struck out 15. The Riverside, CA native was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Tabor College (Hillsboro, KS).

The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
