Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers defeated the Oshawa Generals 3-1 at the General Motors Centre on Sunday night. Tobias Rieder scored the game winner for the Rangers, while Andrew Crescenzi added a goal and an assist. The Generals struck first, when Scott Laughton sped in alone and beat Kitchener netminder John Gibson with a high backhand shot. The centre's second goal of the season came at 8:03 and was assisted by Josh Graves and Kyle Hope.

Rangers tied the score at 10:54 of the opening frame. Jonathan Jasper found Josh Sterk on the doorstep and the rookie banged the puck past Dan Altshuller. Zach Lorentz also picked up an assist on Sterk's third of the year.

The Rangers out-shot Oshawa 15-10 in the first period.

Gibson and Altshuller each made some big saves in a scoreless second period. The Generals held an 18-13 advantage in shots-on-goal in the frame.

Tobias Rieder broke the deadlock midway through the third period with a rebound goal that snuck past Altshuller. The German import leads all Rangers' skaters with ten goals and 19 points. Assisting on the play were Eric Ming and Andrew Crescenzi.

Crescenzi added an empty net goal in the last minute to give the Rangers a 3-1 victory. The veteran forward extended his point-scoring streak to seven games, recording a total of eight points during that span. Julian Melchiori was credited with the assist.

Kitchener out-shot the Generals 16-7 in the final frame and finished with a 44-35 overall advantage. With the win, the Rangers improve to 10-6-1-0 this season while the Generals fall to 8-10-0-2.
