Richmond Raiders News Release
Second-place Richmond (8-2) travels to Knoxville to take on the Nighthawks (1-9) Saturday evening for the third meeting of the two teams this year.
At their first face off on March 24 in Richmond, the Raiders and the Nighthawks looked evenly matched early on even as the Raiders jumped out to a 13-point lead with two touchdowns that stemmed from Nighthawk turnovers. Knoxville roared back with two unanswered scoring drives to pull ahead 14 to 13 at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders then put together two scoring drives of their own in the second quarter to just one for Knoxville, which brought the score at the half to 27 for the Richmond and 21 for Knoxville.
The second half of that game saw an explosion of scoring, however, as the Raiders put up 43 points to the Nighthawks' 21. Hamstrung by turnovers the entire evening, Knoxville in total lost three fumbles and had five passes intercepted, which were returned for 129 yards and three scores.
When the teams met again the following week in Knoxville, the Raiders had a particularly good night offensively, scoring almost every time they had the ball. The defense added two TDs on pass intercepts for an 80 to 29 win.
