Richmond Rematch with Columbus Promises High Drama

Number-two Richmond (6-2) hosts Number-Three Columbus (5-3) of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) in a rematch of their season opener that kept fans glued to their Richmond Coliseum seats on March 10. In that game, the Raiders overcame an eight point deficit by scoring 21 unanswered points late in the 3rd and early 4th quarters on the way to a 64-58 victory over the Lions.
Columbus and Richmond share league's longest winning streaks and both teams have mounted a number of closing minute scores to remain in the winning column. On May 5, Richmond QB Antwon Young tossed a 14-yard TD pass to Herb Jones with eight seconds left on the clock to lift the Raiders to a 50-43 victory over Louisiana. Last week Richmond held off a 28-point 4th quarter by the Alabama Hammers win 65-59.
The Lions have generated their share of drama. In their past two games, they have relied on final-second field goals to win. In their most recent outing, newly signed kicker Chandler Brooks booted one 40-yards to slip past Knoxville 58-55.
Richmond leads the PIFL in total defense (227 yards allowed/game), and can be potent on offense as well. The team is second in the league in scoring, averaging 58 points a game. Only Columbus tops Richmond with 58.6 points per game on average.
Columbus boasts a high-powered passing attack. QB Randy Hippeard leads the PIFL in completion percentage (64.4), passing yards (2,159), and total offense (282 yards/game).
Richmond is one of only two teams in the PIFL with a perfect home record (4-0).
If history is an indication, Saturday's game at the Coliseum should produce high drama and keep fans glue to their seats.
