Swashbucklers to Meet Nighthawks Saturday Night

LAKE CHARLES LA. - On Saturday, May 19th, the Louisiana Swashbucklers are set to take on the Knoxville Nighthawks in the Smuggler's Den in the Lake Charles Civic Center with kickoff at 7 p.m. The game broadcast, with John Goodman doing the play-by-play, can be heard on the Internet at www.kezmonline.com or www.labucs.com. Pre-game will begin at 6:50 p.m. This is the first game at home for the Bucs in a month and the second encounter between both teams. In the first contest on April 27th Louisiana won by a score of 61-28. The Swashbucklers are 3-5 on the season and the Nighthawks are at 1-7.

This game will also be the annual Freedom Fighters tribute. A long-standing tradition of the Swashbucklers, area first responders and the military will be honored for their service and valor to the local community and the nation.

Knoxville head coach Chris MacKeown has had a wealth of coaching experience and knows the challenges of making a first year team contenders in the PIFL. He spoke on his observations of being in the league. "The PIFL is a great organization to be with," he said. "We have a superb group of owners who care about every aspect of indoor football. Their dedication to our sport makes this league competitive, solid and stable. The fans appreciate everything all our teams do to give them the best we have to offer on and off the field."

MacKeown knows football very well. He has been coaching in the sport for 12 years. Nine times teams he has been affiliated with have made the playoffs. Teams coached by MacKeown in his career have made it to some conference finals five times and even reached one league championship. His resume includes stints in the AFL and the IFL. Prior to this MacKeown had been coaching for eight years at the high school and college levels. MacKeown is originally from Dayton, OH and is a graduate of the University of Toledo and the University of Dayton.

Coach McKeown knows he has a challenge on his hands as the Nighthawks come to Lake Charles to face the Swashbucklers again. The first encounter was in Knoxville. "The season is down to the last four games. Every team knows wins are essential to make the playoffs. We are going to play hard. We are expecting the same from Louisiana. This game will be physical. I am expecting a very hard fought contest."
