Richmond Raiders News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN (March 13, 2012) - Richmond Raiders quarterback Antwon Young has been named the Offensive Player of the Week, Richmond defensive back Maurice Thorne has been named the Defensive Player of the Week and Richmond kicker T.C. Stevens has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the Professional Indoor Football League for the first week of the PIFL season.

Richmond QB Antwon Young (6'4 220, Villanova) picked up where he finished the 2011 season by guiding the Raiders to a season opening win over the Columbus Lions. On Saturday, with 16 of 28 passing for 172 yards and five touchdowns Young guided the Raiders to a 64-58 win over the Lions, helping overturn a late 12 point 3rd Quarter deficit. Also proving to be a major threat with his feet, Young added 52 rushing yards including a 18-yard scoring touchdown that drove the nail in the Lion's coffin for the Raiders.

In a game that featured few defensive moments, DB Maurice Thorne for the Raiders (5'10 180, NC Wesleyan) stood out most, notching a game-high 7.5 tackles. Behind a ruckus 3,243 Richmond crowd, Thorne and company closed out the game holding Columbus without a score for almost an entire quarter between the 3rd and 4th quarters.

In his Richmond debut, Kicker T.C. Stevens (5'9 180, Hampden-Sydney) got off to a prolific start with the opening kickoff by scoring the first of his two Uno's for the night. The former Tiger was a perfect 8 for 8 on PAT attempts while also adding field goals of 42 and 22 yards respectively.

The Richmond Raiders (1-0) travel to Georgia this week to take on the last year's champion Albany Panthers Saturday night. The game will be webcast over the Richmond Raiders website, www.richmondraidersprofootball.com.
