
Rich earns Player of the Week honors

Boise, ID (March 8, 2004) â The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Gary Steelheads All-Star guard Jemeil Rich was named the League Player of the Week for the week of February 29 â March 7.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound point guard averaged 23.5 points and 16.7 assists per game during the week, including a CBA season-high 23 assists on March 2, as the Steelheads clinched their first-ever playoff berth and finished the season in third place in the League standings. He also added 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 50 percent (37 of 74) from the floor, and 57.1 percent (4 of 7) from the three-point line.
In a 128-112 victory over Sioux Falls on March 2, Rich notched 20 points and 23 assists, setting a league season-high in assists. Three nights later, in a 117-107 victory over the Idaho Stampede, he added 30 points and 20 assists as the Steelheads clinched a playoff spot. The following night, he posted 20 points and 11 assists as Gary defeated the Rockford Lightning, and clinched the third seed for the playoffs, in front of 6,202 fans at the Genesis Convention Center.
Rich led the league in assists during the season with a 10.6 average, and also finished second in steals with 2.7 per game.
Other players receiving consideration were Great Lakes' Leon Smith (26.5 ppg, 21.8 rpg), Idaho's David Bailey (23.5 ppg, 13.0 apg), and Rockford's Ronnie Fields (27.0 ppg, 3.5 spg).
