Cincinnati Kings News Release

CINCINNATI - 1790 Cincinnati announces they have signed Alex Rawlings as the Assistant Coach for the 2008/09 season and Garrett Buck, Matt Brienes, and Shawn Rockey become the first three professional players signed by the first-year franchise.

Rawlings played for Ohio State University (1987-91) where he was a two-year captain and senior MVP. He was drafted by the Dayton Dynamo (NPSL) in 1991. After Dayton, he played for the Canton Invaders (92-93) and spent two season with the Cincinnati Cheetahs. Alex holds his USSF "A" license.

"It is very difficult, especially having a lot of younger players, to be both a player and a coach," said player/Head Coach Craig Rhodis. 'Having someone your trust on the sideline makes a huge difference. Alex is that person for me. He knows the game and will be a tremendous asset as we build our organization."

Defender Garrett Buck spent his youth club days as part of the Javanon Soccer Club in Kentucky, where was part of three regional finalist teams. His high school team (Louisville Ballard) was state champ and ranked #1 nationally. Garrett attended Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he was captain. He was a member of the Cincinnati Excite from 2005-08, most recently being named 1st Team All AISL (2007-08).

Midfielder Shawn Rockey attended the University of Dayton, where he was Atlantic 10 conference MVP (1997) and team MVP. Professionally, he has played for the Cincinnati Riverhawks (A-League) from 1997-2003, where he was team captain for 3 seasons, and the Columbus Crew. He most recently played for the Cincinnati Excite (2005-08), where he was team captain and an all league player. In July, Rockey earned two caps with the United States National Arena Soccer Team in Montreal.

Forward Matt Brienes attended Marquette University, where he was a team captain. He spent time with the Canton Invaders and Philadelphia Kixx in the NPSL. Most recently he played for the Cincinnati Excite in the AISL, where he led the league in scoring 3 seasons and was a 3 time All-League player. Matt is a member of the United States National Arena Soccer Team player pool.

" I hear a lot of talk about the PASL compared to the NISL and XSL," said Rhodis. "I dont pretend to know where we would stand competitively as a team, but I do know that these three players can play anywhere, in any of the leagues. We will build our team around them."
