February 29, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Cincinnati Kings News Release

In a must-win match to make it to the PASL post-season, the Cincinnati Kings fell to the top team in the Eastern Division, the Detroit Waza, 7-6, Saturday night at the Cincinnati Gardens. The loss means the Illinois Piasa claim the fourth and final spot in the Eastern Division playoffs.

The Kings season is not over yet, though as they will be playing for the US Open championship against the San Diego Sockers on Saturday, March 17, at 7:35 p.m. at the Cincinnati Gardens. It is a rematch of last year's Open Cup finals, when San Diego defeated the Kings, 13-6.

The Kings opened scoring less than a minute into the game on a goal by Xavier University product Sam Fiore. The Kings followed with two goals from Kwame Sarkodie before Detroit got on the board to make it 3-1 after the first period.

In the second period the Waza scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead before the Kings evened the score at 4 just before the half on a Drew Ducker power play goal.

Cincinnati started the third period with a 5-4 lead on the second goal of the night from Ducker, but the rest of the quarter belonged to the Waza, who scored three straight goals to take a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter. The Waza played defense for the quarter, only allowing a Nik Djokic goal with less than a minute left, as Cincinnati falls one goal short.

With the loss, the Kings end their PASL season with a 6-10 record. Detroit ends the regular season with a 13-3 record.

Cincinnati to host US Open Championships on March 17
