Rhode Re-Signs With Burn

BOISE, Idaho ¾ The Boise Burn have announced that former Boise State QB BJ Rhode, former Idaho State DB Ernie James and Michigan State Alumni FB/LB Matt Walters have been assigned to the team by the arenafootball2 office.

Rhode, 6-2, 270-pounds, will return for a second season with the Burn after leading the team to four straight victories to finish the 2007 regular season. The Burn, in its expansion season, fell short of the playoffs by three points. In five starts with the Burn, Rhode (4-1) completed 84 of 148 passes (56,8%) for 1,100 yards, 19 TD's and 7 interceptions. Rhode is the third quarterback signed by the Burn this off-season, joining Jason Campbell and Matt Schabert.

James, 6-0, 195-pounds, is a four-year starter at ISU (2001-04) and finished his collegiate career with 208 tackles (91 solo), 9 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, one of which he returned a school record 100 yards against Northern Colorado in 2003, 6 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and 36 pass break ups. James spent the past couple of seasons playing for the Billings Outlaws of the United Indoor Football League.

Walters, 6-2, 270-pounds, spent three seasons at Michigan State University. After red-shirting in 2002, Walters was used mostly as a blocking back for the Spartans during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Walters began his collegiate career at Scottsdale Community College where he earned All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and second team All-Western State Football league selections as a sophomore. Walters played in the af2 in 2007, appearing in six games for the Tri-Cities Fever.
