Rochester Rhinos News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Rhinos took on the Montreal Impact at Marina Auto Stadium with 7,717 fans in attendance. The Rhinos are unbeaten against Montreal this season tying the first and winning in the second meeting.
Montreal had their first chance of the game in the 8th minute. Eddy Sebrango ran up the middle of the field and passed the ball to an open Tony Donatelli on the wide right. Donatelli took the ball in the box and shot it right goalkeeper Scott Vallow who made the save.
The Rhinos had a great chance to take the lead when Andrew Hoxie crossed the ball in toward Tyler Rosenlund who was making a run into the box in the 13th minute. Rosenlund had an open net to shoot at, took control of the ball and shot it toward net. Montreal goalkeeper Matt Jordan took a diving leap to his right to make the tough save.
Rhinos midfielder Jamie Franks got possession of the ball in the 27th minute. He crossed it in to a covered Anthony Hamilton, who spun around the defender to give him a clear shot of the net. Hamilton took the shot, but it went straight to Jordan.
The Rhinos had their best chance of the night in the 36th minute. Hoxie kicked the ball in toward the center of the box to Frankie SanFilippo, who was making a run toward goal. SanFilippo gained possession of the ball and blasted it in the net, hitting the side post and bouncing in the goal to give the Rhinos the 1-0 lead.
Montreal took the attack in the 45th minute. Sebrango, out wide left, crossed the ball in to the box. Leonardo Dilorenzo got his head on it and redirected the ball toward net. The ball beat Vallow and hit the back of the net to even the score at one.
The Impact had a chance to take the lead when Sebrango controlled the ball on the right side of the field. He sent the ball in the box to Antonio Ribeiro in the 63rd minute. Ribeiro tried to turn around to get a shot on goal, but the Rhinos broke up the opportunity and kicked the ball out of the box.
In the 84th minute, the Rhinos went on the attack to take back the lead. Alfonso Motagalvan passed the ball up to Darren Spicer who took control of the ball. Spicer crossed the ball in the box and found Isaac Kissi running toward goal. Kissi got his foot on the ball and tapped it in the net to give the Rhinos a 2-1 lead.
The Rhinos held onto to the 2-1 lead to defeat the Impact. This win brings Rochester to 12-5-6 with 42 points while Montreal goes to 6-10-7.
The Rochester Rhinos go on the road for their next game Wednesday, August 18 against Crystal Palace Baltimore. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
