Rhinos To Host Pittsburgh in U.S. Open Cup Tournament

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos will welcome the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to PAETEC Park on Tuesday, June 24th for their second round match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tournament.

Rochester earned their way to the second round by virtue of a 2-1 overtime victory over RWB Adria in the opening match of the tournament on June 10th . The Riverhounds advanced to round two by knocking off the AAC Eagles 4-0.

Rochester, who holds 20-9-3 all-time U.S. Open Cup mark have battled the Riverhounds in Open Cup play just once. That match came in 2000 when the Rhinos opened their defense of their 1999 tournament victory by defeating Pittsburgh 2-1 at Bethel Park Stadium in the first round clash.

The Riverhounds joined the USL's First Division in 1999 where they played five seasons before dropping to the league's second division in 2004. The club was on hiatus last season before returning to action in 2008.

Kick-off for the match is 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the match are available at the PAETEC Park Box Office, by phone at (585) 232-1900 and at all ticketmaster locations. Children under 12 can receive a 99-cent ticket to the match and should call the Rhino office for more details.

The winner of the match will advance to take on D.C. United on Tuesday, July 1. At stake in the tournament is $180,000 in prize money broken down as follows: $100,000 to the champion, $50,000 to the runner up and $10,000 to the team that advances deepest into the tournament from each of the Division II, Division III and amateur levels. The winner of the tournament will earn a berth into the CONCACAF 2009-10 Champions League.
