Rhinos Signs Defender Heins; Release Martinez

August 15, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Rochester Rhinos News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos have announced the acquisition of midfielder/defender Ryan Heins on loan from the Harrisburg City Islanders of United Soccer Leagues' Second Division. Heins had played in one match for Rochester earlier this season when Rochester traveled to Carolina to play the RailHawks on May 24. Heins appeared in 17 games for Harrisburg while registering seven goals and an assist in that span.

The loan is pending USL and USSF approval.

Rochester announced another roster move on Friday with the release of midfielder Rey Martinez due to disciplinary reasons. Martinez had been in his fourth season with Rochester and registered eight goals and seven assists in 48 career matches. He had just one assist in seven matches played in 2008.

United Soccer Leagues announced today that the Rochester Rhinos have been penalized one point in the USL First Division standings. The point deduction comes as a result of an administrative error that occurred which resulted in Andrew Gregor sitting out the Rhinos August 8th match at Puerto Rico rather than the league required August 10th match against Puerto Rico at PAETEC Park. Gregor was required to sit because of a one game suspension due to yellow card accumulation. In addition to the point deduction Gregor still must serve his one game suspension against the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, August 16 at PAETEC Park

"The organization doesn't necessarily agree with all aspects of the league's decision but we accept responsibility for our actions" said Rhinos owner Rob Clark.
