Rochester Rhinos News Release
(Rochester, NY)...Rochester Raging Rhinos Vice President and General Manager Chris Economides announced that the team has signed midfielder Edivaldo DaSilva.
DaSilva, also known as "Juninho" (Ju-NIN-yo), appeared in 10 games with the Puerto Rico Islanders this season, collecting five points (1+3) before being released by the club earlier this week. Last season, the 31-year-old native of Juazeiro, Brazil, appeared in 23 games collecting five points (1+3) as well. Prior to his time in the First Division, Juninho has built an impressive International playing resume. Before joining the Islanders in 2004, Juninho played for Novo Hamburgo in the Bolivian B Series. While at Novo, he was named the third best foreign player in the Bolivian League. Juninho began his career with Barra da Tiuca of Rio de Janeiro in 1995. He has also spent time with Independiente Petrolero Sucre of Bolivia and C.A. Bizertin in Tunisia.
"Juninho is a very skillful player that can hold onto the ball and create plays on the field," Rhinos Head Coach Laurie Calloway said. "He adds a great technical quality to our lineup and has the ability to play a midfield or forward role that can score goals."
The Rhinos will play two games this weekend at Frontier Field. On Saturday night, the Rhinos will host the Richmond Kickers at 8:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a soccer ball, courtesy of Chase Pitkin. On Sunday, the club will host the Colorado Rapids (MLS) in a "friendly" match. The match will kickoff at 6:05 p.m. Season Ticket holders should use Ticket #17 or Letter B for this match. Both games will be broadcast on Fickle 93.3 FM and webcast at www.rhinossoccer.com.
