Rhinos Host Open Cup Game
May 12, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY - The 103rd Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup has begun, with the Rochester Rhinos joining the competition on Wednesday, May 18 at home. The Rhinos are no stranger to the Cup, as they are the only non MLS team to win the cup since the MLS originated in 1996. Seventeen years ago the Rochester Rhinos were victorious underdogs that beat four straight MLS teams to win the U.S Open Cup in 1999. Next Wednesday their quest for the Cup begins again.
On May 18, the Rochester Rhinos will take on Southie FC in the Second Round of tournament play. The game will be held at Rhinos Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Southie FC was formed in 2012, and joined the Bay State Soccer League in 2014 and recently competed in the National Amateur Cup Tournament.
The Rhinos are offering a bonus "two for one" value ticket for the Open Cup match. Tickets are only $15 for any seat in the stadium, and includes admission to both the U.S Open Cup match, as well as the May 28 game against Bethlehem Steel at 6:05 p.m ($24 face value ticket).
Also available for this game is $25 Field Level Ticket, giving every fan the chance to experience this all new ultimate fan experience seating option. This offer is limited to the first 50 fans, who along with the Open Cup field level seat, also have a bonus Midfield ticket for the Rhinos home game on May 28 game against Bethlehem Steel.
The US Open Cup features 19 PDL teams, 15 NPSL teams, and 14 local qualifiers. These 48 teams are considered "Open Division Teams", and due to geographical matchups those from the same qualifying pool cannot be paired to play against each other in the first round. Teams who win their First Round matches will then advance to the Second Round, where 18 USL clubs will enter the competition. 15 Third Round games are scheduled for June 1st as North America Soccer League (NASL) teams enter the contest. Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs enter during the 4th round, with matches taking place June 15th.
