Hammerheads Sign Matt Harriott

Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announce the addition of midfielder/forward Matt Harriott from Wealdstone FC.

After coming through the youth ranks of Luton Town, Harriott, 23, made a move to Bramall Lane in August 2010. Progressing quickly with the Blades, he made his first team début for the Blades in the 84th minute of a 2-2 home match against Doncaster Rovers at Bramall Lane in early January 2011. Having made only one further appearance for the Yorkshire club Harriott joined Football League Two side Burton Albion on a one-month loan deal in March 2012. He made four appearances for the Brewers before returning to United after his loan spell was cut short following a change in managerial staff at Burton Albion. The following season Harriott joined Alfreton Town on a months loan in November 2012, which was later was extended until 6 January 2013, and again to the maximum 93 days allowed. Having made 13 appearances for Alfreton, Harriott returned to United but after failing to break into the first team Harriott left the club in June 2013 after they failed to offer him a new contract.

After being released from the Blades, Harriott signed a one-year deal with Northampton Town on 30 August of 2013. In November of 2013, Harriott joined Hayes & Yeading United on loan until December 14, 2013. After his completion with Northampton, Harriott was on loan with Hayes & Yeading from 2013-2014. His most recent team was Wealdstone Football Club. Wealdstone is a football club in Ruislip, west London, England, which is affiliated to the Middlesex County Football Association.

Harriott joins the Hammerheads for their 20th Anniversary season after a successful history in England. He stated in a recent interview, "I'm really excited to be part of the Hammerheads and playing in such a fast developing league. Only being here a few days I can already see how professional the club is trying to do things, with a real focus on taking the club to a new level; which excites me to be apart of. I'm really hoping I can contribute to a successful season."

Head coach Mark Briggs, elaborated on Matt's recent signing, "We are lucky to have signed Matt with the international window having closed Wednesday. He is a skilled player and will provide our offensive line-up with more range and proficiency. He has proven his workhorse mentality and that will prove beneficial with our group of guys this season."
