Rhinos Home for Two This Week
July 14, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos will play host to a midweek rivalry match against the Montreal Impact tomorrow night at Marina Auto Stadium. The 7:00 p.m. kickoff will mark the third and final meeting between the two clubs with each side trading road wins this season.
Montreal will enter the match in eighth place in the USL First Division table with a 5-7-2 record. They trail the fifth place Rhinos (7-5-3) by seven points. Montreal will be without midfielder Patrick LeDuc and defenders Cédric Joqueviel and Zanzan who are out with injuries. Also not making the trip for the Impact is veteran defender Nevio Pizzolitto who will sit out after receiving a red card during the last match in a 3-0 loss at Minnesota. Montreal's Rocco Placentino has been the league's best set-up man this season, leading the league with five assists. He also is the team leader with nine points.
Rochester will be playing their third consecutive league home match when they face the Impact. They will however be missing Head Coach Darren Tilley and Assistant Coach Brent Sancho who each received red cards during the club's 0-0 draw against Puerto Rico on Friday night. Assistant coach Billy Andracki will handle the club in their absence. Rochester hasn't had the better of it against Montreal in regular season play, going 16-26-6 all-time.
RHINOS HOST CHARLESTON BATTERY The Rhinos will continue their home stand on Saturday night when they welcome the Charleston Battery to Rochester. The Battery are tied for second with Portland (30 points) behind table leader Puerto Rico in the First Division. Charleston enters the match as the stingiest team in the league allowing only seven goals in 17 matches played this season. Offensively however the club has managed just 15 tallies. Former Rhino Dusty Hudock (2005) leads the league with a paltry .0.25 goals against average in league play. That mark is challenged by Rhinos goalkeeper Tim Melia whose 0.36 who has played just short of the required number of minutes needed to qualify for the league leaders. Melia has played in six matches and is 4-0-2 during that span.
BERTZ NAMED TO USL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Rhinos defender Kenney Bertz was named to the USL-1 Team of the Week this week. Bertz helped anchor a Rhino defense that shutout first place Puerto Rico on Friday night at Marina Auto Stadium. Bertz, who has played in 13 matches and leads the club in minutes played has received the honor once already this season.
