Salles departs Rochester
July 14, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release
ROCHESTER, NY -- Rochester Rhinos President Matthew Ford announced that the club has released striker Mauricio Salles in a transfer to Kazma Sporting Club of the Kuwait 1st Division. The deal is effective immediately although terms of the transfer have not been disclosed.
"We're happy for Mauricio and his new opportunity and thank him for his time and commitment to the club," said Rhinos President and General Manager Matthew Ford. "Mauricio has been a great player in this league and could always produce something special, we wish him well as he moves on."
Salles, a 6'2, 185 pound, Brazilian striker scored five goals and added two assists in 2008 for the Rhinos, before injury cut his season short. Salles made a name for himself with Puerto Rico and Montreal where he scored 34 league goals over a three-year span.
"I will miss the club and thank everyone from the staff to my teammates and the coaches," said Salles. "I want to especially thank the fans that supported me and made me feel welcome in Rochester."
The Salles move comes just prior to the window for international transfers to the U.S. Leagues, which opens on July 15th.
The Rhinos are expected to add additional depth to the roster having already secured the services of defender Ty Harden on loan from the Colorado Rapids and forward Warren Ukah who scored in his home league debut on Sunday versus Austin.
