Impact Faces The Rhinos In Rochester Wednesday
July 14, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Montreal Impact News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact (5-7-2) plays a second consecutive road game, on this occasion against the Rhinos (7-5-3), Wednesday, in Rochester (7 pm, USLlive.com).
The team will be looking to bounce back from its last defeat against the Thunder. The Impact had lost 3-0, Saturday, at the National Sports Center, in Blaine (Minneapolis).
"We are hoping to take advantage of the circumstances since Brent Sancho, one of their most experienced defenders, as well as coach Darren Tilley, are suspended for the game," said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "To do so, we will have to be organized and not lose our identity, which has been diffucult lately. Despite what might look as a negative context, we could with a win have five more points on our record compared to last year."
"The game against the Rhinos is particularly important for the team," said Impact midfielder Simon Gatti. Compared to mid-season last year, we only had 15 points, instead of the 17 points we earned so far in 14 games. We want to tackle the second half of the season on a different level and be more consistent, which was not the case in the first half."
Since the Rhinos' arrival in the league in 1996, the Impact managed to keep a track record of 26-16-6 against its Rochester rivals. During the last match between the two on May 31, on the Rhinos' home opener, the Impact won the match 1-0 in Rochester.
Central defender Elkena Mayard has been called up from the Attak and will be available for the game.
Young American midfielder Ciaran O'Brien will also join the team during the Rochester trip.
Midfielder Patrick Leduc (foot) and defenders Cédric Joqueviel (thigh) and Zanzan (thigh) are still recovering from injuries and did not make the trip.
Nevio Pizzolitto will also miss the game, after being issued a red card and an automatic one-game suspension during the match against Minnesota.
Rochester will be playing its second match of an 11 consecutive game stretch at home, on the months of July and August.
