Rochester Rhinos News Release
Richmond, VA - The Rochester Rhinos lost their first game of the 2016 season 1-0 to the Richmond Kickers on a goal scored by Yudai Imura in the 60th minute. The goal was scored after a collision occurred in the top of the box with Rhinos GK Adam Grinwis and a Richmond Kickers player. The ball came out of the hands of Grinwis and fell to the open Imura who slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Rochester (1-1-0, 3pts) had several chances in the second half to even the score but did not get the ball past Kickers GK Ryan Taylor. In the 47th minute Asani Samuels placed a shot toward the far left post with Ryan James sliding in that just went wide of the goal. Kenardo Forbes threatened with an open look from 20 yards out in the 56th minute that was tipped over the net for a Rhinos corner kick.
In the 76th minute, Marcos Ugarte's shot from the edge of the goal box found its way through traffic but went just wide right of the goal in one of Rhinos better attempts to even the score. The Rhinos had multiple set pieces in the final five minutes but were unable to connect.
The Rhinos continue their road trip to start the 2016 season on Sunday, April 17 against the New York Red Bulls II at Red Bull Stadium. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m. ET.
