Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY- The Rochester Rhinos return home on Saturday, September 24th for their last home match of the 2016 Regular Season. The night will honor past Rhinos as the team inducts the 2016 Hall of Fame Class. Inductees include broadcaster Don Stevens, and former Rhino's players Bill Sedgwick and Michael Kirmse.
The honorees will be inducted during a halftime ceremony of the match.
Don Stevens has been the voice of Rochester sports for decades, and was with the Rhinos from 1996-2009. While with the club Stevens was part of back-to-back regular season championships (2000-2001), three A-League championships in four years (1998, 2000 and 2001) and the 1999 U.S. Open Cup. During his tenure the team played in fourteen consecutive playoff runs. Proving his dedication in 1998, he even covered an Amerks hockey game and the Rhinos' Championship game on the same day. It will be the Rhinos honor to recognize a local Rochester legend.
For seven years Bill Sedgewick captured the hearts of Rhinos fans both on and off the field. A member of three historic Rochester Championship teams, Sedgwick made an impact on the pitch as a versatile player holding positions at both midfield and defensive. While with the Rhinos, Sedgewick started 'Quarters for Cancer' a charity initiative that benefited the Golisano Children's Hospital. Sedgewick went on to become an Assistant Coach for the Rhinos, and later settled in Montreal with his family. The Rhinos look forward to welcoming Billy back with open arms.
Michael Kirmse will be the third honoree of the night. A Rhino for five seasons, he may be most remembered for his performance in the historic 1999 U.S Open Cup where he assisted in the second goal to help lead the team to victory. Kirmse was a part of three A-Leauge Championship teams in 1998, 2000, and 2001. The Rhinos are excited to honor Kirmse who holds an important place in Rhinos history and will forever be remembered as a member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2016.
Michael Kirmse along with other Rhino's Hall of Famers will be in attendance to sign autographs for fans pre-game on the concourse.
