
RGV FC Acquire Alex Monis on Loan from Chicago Fire FC

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC today announced the acquisition of forward Alex Monis on loan from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire FC for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Monis is set to make his first appearance in the USL Championship as he joins RGV FC; the Illinois native previously competed in the USL League One ranks with Forward Madison FC where he appeared in seven total matches while on loan from Chicago Fire FC between the 2020-2022 seasons.
He completed a pair of assignments in the MLS Next Pro, competing with Chicago Fire FC 2 during the 2022, 2023 seasons; as a striker he scored 11 total goals in two seasons, adding on two assists, logging 40 total appearances and 2,290 minutes of competition in the second tier MLS league.
The young forward kicked off his career with Chicago Fire FC as a homegrown player signing on March 11, 2020; he was the 18th homegrown talent signed in club history. Prior to his official signing, he competed in academy level matches with Chicago FC United from 2015-17, a fourth tier youth level team which formed part of the Chicago Fire system.
His MLS debut came on November 7, 2021 entering as a substitution in the 72nd minute against Columbus Crew; Monis has logged three official appearances with the first team and scored his first, and only, major league goal on October 9, 2022 at home against New York Revolution which was an impactful goal in the 1-1 draw at SeatGeek Stadium.
