
Collin Martin Named to USL Championship Team of the Week

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Loyal SC midfielder Collin Martin was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for his performance in the club's 3-0 win against Birmingham Legion FC on Sept. 3.
Martin scored the final goal of the afternoon for SD Loyal in its victory against the team from the Eastern Conference. The midfielder scored in the 84th minute when he tapped in a Ronaldo Damus shot that bounced off the left post. Martin had fed Damus a pass before making the run towards the post. Damus flicked a shot that eventually ricocheted off the post, bouncing to Martin. It was Martin's first goal of 2023. He celebrated by climbing into the stands to enjoy the moment with his family and friends.
Martin's performance included dominating in midfield against Birmingham Legion FC, completing 50 of 52 passes, winning 5 of 6 duels and completing 3 of 3 dribbles. His work helped SD Loyal to three more points in the Western Conference standings as the team heads into the final stretch of the regular season.
Martin is the seventh SD Loyal player to be named to the USL Championship's Team of the Week in 2023. Tumi Moshobane was selected on Aug. 29 for his performance against Rio Grande Valley FC on Aug. 26. Adrien Perez and Blake Bodily were named on July 18. Joe Corona was named in April, while Koke Vegas and Jackson Simba were each named in March.SD Loyal now heads into its next match against Charleston Battery on Saturday (4:30 p.m., The CW San Diego). The trip to South Carolina marks the first of three-straight road matches as the club will also stop in Louisville (Sept. 16) and Monterey Bay (Sept. 20). SD Loyal returns to Torero Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 24 (3 p.m.) to take on Las Vegas Lights FC. Tickets to the next home match are available now at sdloyal.com/tickets.
