RF Rife and RHP Garza Earn Weekly Honors in North American League

The North American League, one of the premier independent professional baseball leagues on the continent, announced today that Chico Outlaws right fielder Jake Rife and McAllen Thunder right handed pitcher Adrian Garza have been named the Rawlings Players of the Week for the week of August 21st.

Outlaws right fielder Jake Rife finished the season in impressive fashion, collecting 10 hits in 24 at bats last week for a .417 batting average. Rife also had 3 homeruns, 12 RBI, and 3 stolen bases on the week. The 24 year old outfielder was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2009 and reached single-A advanced in 2010. In 2011, Rife hit .343 with 13 homeruns, 23 doubles, and 6 triples, driving in 71 runs. Rife also showed good speed on the bases, stealing 24 bags.

Thunder right hander Adrian Garza won both of his starts last week, pitching deep into the game in each. In his first start, Garza pitched a complete game and allowed just 7 base runners while striking out 5. In his second start, Garza pitched 8 innings, allowing just one earned run and recording 8 strikeouts. He finished the week with 17 innings pitched, 17 hits allowed, 2 walks allowed, 13 strikeouts, and a miniscule 0.53 ERA. 2011 marks Garza's third year as a professional. The 23 year old is a native of McAllen and finished 2011 with a 4-4 record and a 5.10 ERA. Garza struck out 48 batters in 54.2 innings pitched this season.
