Omaha 5, Des Moines 4 shootout

Omaha jumped out to a 3-0 lead but had to fend off a Des Moines rally to eventually win a 5-4 decision in a shootout Saturday.

Noah Jones and Aleksi Kivioja scored goals in the opening stanza and after the first 20 minutes of play, the Lancers held a 2-0 lead. Cameron VanSickle scored the only goal in the second period as Omaha's lead grew to three goals.

Ben Kevan and Liam Watkins, the top two goal scorers on the Des Moines roster, both scored to pull the Bucs to within one, but a Will Elger tally at 11:10 put Omaha up by two once again. The Bucs tied it before the end of regulation when Andrew Clarke scored at 12:07 and Ilya Protas tallied at 14:29, forcing overtime.

After neither team was able to score in the five-minute overtime session, Kivioja was the only player to score during the shootout.
