Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club takes aim at its second Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run tomorrow night, so before the club takes the pitch at Hayes Stadium against South Georgia Tormenta 2, let's look back at last year's Open Cup run.

Second Round - Nashville SC 2-0 Inter Nashville

In what was billed as the battle for the Music City, Nashville SC took on amateur side Inter Nashville of the National Premier Soccer League. It was a hot and sticky night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex, and Nashville SC got on the board early courtesy of forward Tucker Hume's first goal in a Nashville SC uniform. Hume went on to score twice, the second in the 89' minute, with both assists from former NSC forward Robin Shroot, in the 2-0 win. Nashville SC claimed the first "El Nashico," and won its first-ever Open Cup match.

Third Round - Nashville SC 3-1 Mississippi Brilla

Just seven days later, Nashville SC again faced an amateur side, this time from USL League Two in the Mississippi Brilla. The Brilla were coming off an upset of Indy Eleven and were hungry for more against another USL Championship side. Nashville put the match to bed early as recently-signed Brandon Allen scored just 19 minutes into his NSC debut and defender London Woodberry added a second in the 30' minute. While Brilla pulled one back in the second half, Shroot scored his only Nashville goal in stoppage time to seal the 3-1 victory and send NSC to a date with an MLS opponent.

Fourth Round - Nashville SC 2-0 Colorado Rapids

The Fourth Round draw landed Nashville SC a home match with the Colorado Rapids from Major League Soccer, played at Vanderbilt Stadium. In what was arguably Nashville SC's best win in its inaugural season, the Boys in Gold stifled the MLS side, holding the Rapids to zero shots on goal. NSC defender Justin Davis' shot late in the first half led to a Rapids own goal, and super sub Ropapa Mensah tallied on his first touch in the second half to give Nashville the 2-0 victory. NSC was one of just three USL Championship teams to beat an MLS club in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup advancing to the Round of 16.

Round of 16 - Louisville City FC 2-1 Nashville SC

The magical Open Cup run came to an end in Nashville SC's first road match. Taking on one of just two other USL Championship clubs left, eventual USL Cup champs Louisville City FC, Nashville allowed a goal in each half to fall behind 2-0 with 30 minutes left to play. Hope sprang anew when Matt LaGrassa found the net to pull Nashville SC back within one in the 68' minute. A couple of missed opportunities late for Nashville to tie the match went wide, and NSC's Open Cup run ended in Louisville.

Nashville begins the 2019 U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night in Murfreesboro. Tickets to the match are $15 and can be purchased here. Season Ticket Members can purchase tickets in advance for $10 by calling their season ticket representative. All tickets will be $15 at the gate and parking is free next to the stadium.
