New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT) - The York Revolution (9-8) defeated the New Britain Bees (5-14) 5-1 at New Britain Stadium on Friday night to take the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Nutmeg State.
New Britain starting pitcher Zach Stewart (0-3) was tagged with the defeat, surrendering five runs on seven hits (one home run) across five innings on the mound, walking three and striking out one. York starting pitcher Dominic Severino (2-1) picked up the win victory after allowing just an unearned run on four hits over six innings pitched, striking out three.
York took an immediate 4-0 lead against Stewart in the top half of the first inning on an RBI double from Welington Dotel and a three-run home run to left off the bat of Melky Mesa. The visitors made it 5-0 in their favor in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double from Zach Wilson that plated Travis Witherspoon. New Britain cut the deficit to 5-1 in the home half of the fifth when Reid Brignac plated Vinny Siena with a sacrifice fly after Siena led off the frame with a base knock. That was as close as the Bees would get as they were limited to just four hits on the evening. New Britain's bullpen continued to impress in 2018, as the quartet of Evan Scribner (making his Bees debut), Manny Delcarmen, Tyler Higgins, and Kevin Chapman fired four scoreless innings of relief, striking out a pair. Brignac, Siena, Jamar Walton, and James Skelton each had a hit for the Bees. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
