Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(York, PA) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (22-32) were defeated by the York Revolution (31-23) 6-4 at PeoplesBank Park on Friday night in the opener of a three game Father's Day Weekend series in the Keystone State. The Revolution improve to 7-1 in head-to-head meetings against Bridgeport in 2016, and have won 13 of their last 15 games played in York over the 'Fish dating back to 2014, including taking all five meetings this season.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jimmy Patterson picked up a no-decision in the matchup, allowing four runs on 12 hits in six and one-third innings of work while matching a season-best with seven strikeouts. York Starting Pitcher James Simmons also did not factor in the game's final outcome after giving up four runs on five hits over six and one-third innings, walking two, striking out three and surrendering four home runs. Scott Shuman (1-3) was tagged with the loss for Bridgeport after allowing two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning and giving up a home run. Former Bluefish Luis Perdomo (1-1) earned the victory for the Revolution retiring all three batters he faced, striking out one. Mike DeMark pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his league-leading 18th save of the season.
Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead off Simmons in the top half of the fourth inning on a leadoff solo home run to right field by Endy Chavez, his second big fly of the season. The 'Fish made it 2-0 in their favor in the top of the sixth when Anthony Giansanti opened up the frame with a solo blast to left off Simmons, roundtripper number two on the campaign for the Bridgeport outfielder. The home run derby continued in the top of the seventh once again off Simmons, when Luis Rodriguez and Jonathan Galvez went back to back and belly to belly to double the advantage to 4-0. Rodriguez launched his first blast of the season to right and Galvez 'Touched 'Em All for the fourth time in 2016 over the wall in left as the Bluefish went yard for the fourth time in the contest, a single-game best.
York came to bat in the home half of the seventh inning looking to mount a comeback, and that is exactly what they did in a big way. Alfredo Marte began the rally with a leadoff single. With one out, Josh Wilson and Michael Rockett each collected a pair of base knocks, and the bags were juiced for Travis Witherspoon, who drove home a pair with a two-run double off Patterson, cutting the deficit in half as Bridgeport's lead was now 4-2. That was it for Patterson, as Shuman came on inheriting a pair of runners at second and third. Isaias Tejeda grounded out to second with the infield playing back, allowing Rockett to score as the home team was down 4-3, with the tying run jut 90 feet away. Joel Guzman was next, and he evened the score at four with a two-out RBI single. Telvin Nash completed the comeback with a go-ahead two-run homer to left-center field, as the Revolution batted around scoring six runs on six hits to take their first lead of the night at 6-4. Trailing by a pair of runs in the ninth, Bridgeport came to bat against DeMark. Jose Cuevas reached on a throwing error by Andres Perez to start things off, and Rodriguez followed with a free pass, bringing the lead run to the plate in Galvez. DeMark settled down and induced Galvez to ground into a 6-6-3 double play, leaving it up to Josh Vitters to keep the game alive. Vitters laced a hot smash to third that was knocked down on the dive by Bryan Pounds, and he got up and fired across the diamond to end the ballgame, as the Bluefish suffered their 18th blown lead of the season that resulted in a loss. Chavez led the way for Bridgeport with two hits. The Bluefish lost tonight's game, but with Serv Pro IT'S LIKE IT NEVER EVEN HAPPENED because of Serv Pro's amazing staff and attention to detail.
