Bridgewater, NJ- The York Revolution (6-8) defeated the Somerset Patriots (10-5) 5-2 in ten innings on Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revolution improved to 4-0 against Somerset so far this season.
"We need to be a little bit cleaner to make sure we come out on the right side of these things because right now they are getting us in these tight ballgames," said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.
York broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the tenth inning on an RBI single by Jose Costanza and then scored two more runs on a base hit by former Patriot Michael Burgess for the final.
The Revolution got the scoring started in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Joel Guzman for a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the frame on a two-run blast by Jerry Sands (2). It was the only inning that Somerset was able to get on the board, leaving 11 runners on base for the game.
Guzman came through for the Revolution again in the sixth inning with a game-tying home run (2).
Patriots starter Lucas Irvine struck out eight batters, allowing two runs in six innings pitched for a no-decision.
"I had a nice clean first inning, which is always a good start. I got out of a jam in the second," said Irvine. "It was the first time I threw to [Yovan] this year and I thought we clicked. I made some pretty good pitches early, but unfortunately one guy got me."
Brad Allen (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. David Kubiak (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in an inning of work. Luke Westphal earned his first save of the season.
The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution. The game includes Rally Towels (1st 1,500) presented by Garden State Community Bank. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
