FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution II (8-5-3; 30 pts.) battled Toronto FC II (3-8-4; 15 pts.), to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at Gillette Stadium, claiming the extra point with a 4-2 shootout win. Revolution goalkeeper Jacob Jackson made five saves as forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the match.
Adebayo-Smith opened the scoring in the 37th minute after his high press caused a turnover in Toronto's defense. The Englishman led New England with three shots and three on target. Toronto tied the game with Julian Altobelli's tally in the 61st minute.
After Revolution II's three subs entered the match in the second half, goalkeeper Nico Campuzano was called upon in the 83rd minute as an emergency forward for Weverton. The second-year pro closed out the remaining seven minutes of the match in a field position and narrowly missed a scoring opportunity off a corner kick in stoppage time. With the score even at one, the two sides headed to the penalty kick shootout.
New England's Marcos Dias, Jacob Akanyirige, Ben Awashie, and Nakye Greenidge-Duncan all buried their opportunities while Jackson recorded two saves in the shootout, marking his second shootout win of the season and securing the additional point for Revolution II.
New England returns to action on Sunday, July 2 against Huntsville City FC at Joe Davis Stadium. The 7 p.m. match will stream live MLSNEXTPro.com

Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay
On his team's performance:
Peay: "I just think it was a gutsy performance being short numbers and having a couple of injuries. The guys just put it all out there and left it on the field. I couldn't be prouder of the way they approached the match knowing that they were up against it with numbers and how they finished it."
On Ítalo's performance in a more offensive position:
Peay: "I think being higher up the field and wide is natural for him [Ítalo]. He likes to be an attacking outside back who does that naturally. Some of the defensive responsibilities are a little bit different for him. He did it a little bit last game for us and he's getting more used to it, but I think how we're asking our left back to be inverted a little bit, suits him better."
On Jordan Adebayo-Smith's impact on the squad:
Peay: "Having a guy who can stretch a defense can create problems for opponents. For our team, we now know that when teams want to be aggressive with us and play high lines, we have a threat in behind. Jordan [Adebayo-Smith] has been great at that, and we certainly think that he can only get better as the season progresses."
On substituting goalkeeper Nico Campuzano in as a field player:
Peay: "We had three subs on the night. We figured we burned through all three and we just wanted to make sure Nico [Campuzano] had a kit ready in case we needed him because you never know, and there you go. It happened and it's unfortunate that Weverton took a little injury, but Nico was great. He just ran around and tried his best to get in the way. He had a great chance on the corner kick almost getting the game winning goal. I can't ask for anything more out of the guy. He's able to give it in any way he can."
On Nakye Greenidge-Duncan scoring the winning penalty against his former club:
Peay: "It was great moment for him [Nakye Greenidge-Duncan]. He wasn't originally supposed to take the kick, but the guys talked, and they decided. He wanted to step up and do it, so credit to him and the confidence he had in that moment."
Revolution II Goalkeeper Nico Campuzano
On appearing off the bench as an emergency forward:
Campuzano: "As soon as Nakye [Greenidge-Duncan] went in, I was actually just talking to Pablo [Di Benedetto], like, 'Oh, wow, now if something happens, I'm in.' So, he pointed out, he was like, 'Wait, I think Weverton actually pulled his hamstring, so I think you're in.' And I just looked at the bench and everybody was calling for me, so at that point, obviously, I think the ref was giving them some trouble, because like different jersey, different number, it was not my number. They ended up just sorting it out and I just had to change as fast as I could and just get in."
On what was going through his head subbing on as a forward:
Campuzano: "Honestly, I'm just trying to remember what they ask the forwards to do. At that point, I know I'm not going to try to do anything fancy, I'm just going to run, try to press, body people, be a target when I can, defend when I can. At the end of the day, I was also trying to drop back and track some guys so that maybe somebody else can save their legs and they can stay up top, you know? So, I'm trying to stay away from the ball as much as I can, just help defend, and just try to remember how we're trying to shape them, how we're trying to defend, and just do whatever I could."
On how he felt about his performance:
Campuzano: "Obviously I was a little bit all over the place. I knew I had like eight minutes, so I was like, 'Okay, I'll just try to run, get my body behind the ball as much as I can, try to help defend.' I think I kind of did somewhat what they asked defensively in terms of pressure. I probably did too much in terms of like going back and tracking guys down, but again, I was just trying to hopefully, when I can press up top, do that. When I can let somebody else be the target up top, do that in case we have a counterattack. I think I cleared the ball I had to clear, so I'm happy with that one."
On whether he ever imagined what it would be like to play as a field player:
Campuzano: "Not really like that. It's more like those last minutes being able to go up and maybe contribute with a corner kick or something, which did happen, just not how you would expect it to happen. But I was actually close."
On his chance at a game winner in stoppage time:
Campuzano: "I honestly misread the ball a little bit. I tried to go with my head, and then it dropped, and I was just trying to scoop it with my foot and just get my body in the middle there. Hopefully next time I can just get it in there."
On whether he was prepared to take a penalty in the shootout:
Campuzano: "Yeah, that's for sure. If they need me, I'll be up to the task."
