Richmond Revolution News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, MI: The Revolution are doing the best impression they can of The Kardiac Kids. Faced with a 750 mile trip to Grand Rapids, MI the Revolution fought back and forth with the hosting Thunderhawks until ultimately coming out on top with a 46-44 victory. The win moves the expansion Revolution to a 7-1 record and a 2 game lead over the Rochester Raiders, as the Thunderhawks fell to third place in the division.

The Revolution were bolstered by a strong offensive showing, particularly on the ground. Starting in his first Revolution game, former James Madison RB Eugene Holloman carried the ball for a game high 64 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown. Holloman joined the team three weeks ago after being released by Green Bay of the IFL. With the Blizzard Holloman carried 15 times for 39 yards over the span of 4 games. The college teammate of Revolution QB Rodney Landers helped to get the Revolution on the board in the first quarter, carrying the ball for 30 yards and setting up QB Bryan Randall's first touchdown pass of the game.

Randall ultimately would throw four touchdowns during the game, three to WR Antwun Williams, to give him 34 for the season, good for second in the league next to the reigning IFL MVP Chris Dixon of the Billings Outlaws. Williams paced the team with five receptions for 37 yards and the three touchdowns, which gives him 13 on the season, the third most in the league. Randall ran in a touchdown in addition to throwing one to WR Damon "Redd" Thompson, his seventh of the season. Overall the Revolution were able to put up over 100 yards of offense on the ground between Holloman, Randall and Landers, their highest total this season.

The Revolution defense did their best to slow down the high flying Thunderhawk offense, led by former Grand Valley State QB Brad Iciek, who came into the game leading the IFL in passing yards per game at just under 300 yards. The defense was unable to intercept Iciek who completed 73.5% of 34 passes for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns, but they were able to stop him when it mattered. A stifling run defense that allowed only 35 yards all game forced the Thunderhawks to continue passing if they wanted to beat the Revolution. In the fourth quarter, down by 2 points to the visiting team, the Thunderhawks were able to move the ball to the 15 of the Revolution, but them promptly imploded. The offense was called for holding on an 8 yard run that would've given them a 2nd and 2 at the 7 yard line, instead having to settle for 1st and 20 at the 25. The next play was a touchdown strike that was called back for offensive pass interference, giving them a 1st and 30 at their own 15. Two straight incompletions and a six yard sack by DE Jason Holman forced them into a 4th and 36. Kicking with the ball at the 1 yard line, the Thunderhawks attempted a 58 yard field goal that would've given them the lead, but missed it wide.

The Revolution took over at their own 5 yard line, with 1:45 left in the game. Rodney Landers was able to run the clock out with 23 yards rushing and a kneel down by Randall.

The win marks the fourth in a row for the Revolution, who need 2 more wins to clinch a playoff berth in the IFL playoffs. The Revolution continue their season long 3 game road trip next week in College Park, MD against the winless Maryland Maniacs. The following week the Revolution will be back in Grand Rapids for the final regular season game against the Thunderhawks. The team returns home on May 22nd for a game against the Rochester Raiders, the only team to beat the Revolution this season.
