Revolution Defeat Extreme in Home Opener, 49-37

BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - Richmond quarterback Bryan Randall found wide receiver Antuwn Williams for a 32-yard touchdown on their first play from scrimmage, and they never looked back as the Revolution defeated the Bloomington Extreme, 49-37 in front of 5,769 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum Saturday night. With the loss, the Extreme fell to 1-5 on opening day.

Extreme (0-1) quarterback Luke Drone was 14-28 for 132 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also led the rushing attack with eight carries for 23 yards. Running back Derrick Brown Jr. rushed for two touchdowns, while wide receiver Harry Lewis caught five passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

Randall led the Revolution offense as he was 13-23 for 240 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. Williams caught three touchdowns while wide receivers Aaron Alexander and Damon Thompson caught two apiece.

The Extreme would responded to the Revolutions quick score to open the game with one of their own. On their ensuing possession, Brown took it in from four yards out to tie the game at seven.

The Extreme defense added some points to the board in the second quarter when defensive back Terrell Mayberry picked off a Randall pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown as Bloomington took a 14-7 lead.

Randall tossed a 40 yard touchdown pass to Damon Thompson to tie the game at 14. The Revolution would later take the lead 16-14, when the defense sacked Drone in the end zone for a safety. Drone found wide receiver Harry Lewis for a 22 yard touchdown with 1:41 left in the half as Bloomington regained the lead, 21-16.

With seven seconds remaining in the half, Randall threw a 42 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Aaron Alexander. The Revolution failed on their two-point conversion and took a 23-21 lead into the locker room.

On their first possession of the second half, Drone threw a 20-yard touchdown to Lewis as the Extreme regained the lead, 28-23. The Revolution would respond as Randall found Williams again for a 19 yard strike with 8:11 remaining in the third quarter to take a 30-28 advantage, and they never relinquished their lead.

Driving in the fourth quarter, Drone was picked off by Revolution defensive back Demarcus James in the end zone with 1:20 remaining to seal a 49-37 victory for the Revolution.

The Extreme play its second of a two-game home stand when they host the division-rival Green Bay Blizzard, March 13. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
