New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (11-4-7; 40 pts. - 2nd in East.) will wrap up a two-game homestand on Saturday night, when the club welcomes D.C. United (8-9-6; 30 pts. -8th in East.) to Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Mark Followill and Charlie Davies will call the match in English, while Moises Linares and Jaime Macias will provide Spanish commentary. Saturday's match can also be heard on the radio locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Clyde Simms on the call, and on 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA in Portuguese.
New England recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in the previous meeting with D.C. United on March 25. After falling behind to D.C. via a goal from leading scorer Christian Benteke, Gustavo Bou fired back for one of his four goals this season, before Homegrown Player Noel Buck broke the deadlock with the game winner in the 88th minute. Bou, who has recorded 60 combined goals and assists in league play including seven this season, owns a team-high four goals scored against D.C. United.
Midfielder Carles Gil has also performed well against the Black and Red, netting three goals with four assists over nine career encounters with D.C., who are coached by legendary English striker Wayne Rooney. New England has dominated the recent series against the fellow MLS original club, tallying an 8-1-0 record over the last nine meetings. Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena, set to coach his 600th MLS game (including playoffs), owns a 15-5-8 record against his former club.
The Revolution opened the week with a 2-1 victory at home over Atlanta United FC on Wednesday night. New England raced out to a swift two-goal lead behind tallies from midfielder Matt Polster and forward Giacomo Vrioni in the fourth and ninth minutes, respectively. Vrioni's fifth goal of the season marked his third game winner of the campaign, a team high.
Gil distributed the assist on Vrioni's tally to move into a three-way tie for the MLS lead with 10 helpers this year. The 2023 MLS All-Star, who will join goalkeeper Djordje Petrović at next week's showcase in Washington, D.C., has now reached double-digit assists in all four of his full seasons with the Revolution (excluding 2020), the most 10-assist campaigns in club history. In the last 10 games, Gil has been on a tear with five goals and six helpers.
Wednesday's win over Atlanta extended New England's home unbeaten streak to 11 matches dating back to October 2022, and improved the home mark to 8-0-3 this season. The Revolution hold their position as one of two teams without a home loss this season. Midfielder Ian Harkes saw his first action in front of the home support, seeing his first Revolution start and second straight appearance since joining the club earlier in July.
MATCH FOR C.H.A.N.G.E.
New England will host its third annual "Match for C.H.A.N.G.E." on Saturday, highlighted by a canned food drive for the 3rd annual UnitedHealthcare Community Giveback Day, benefiting Rose's Bounty.
